Those DC house ads were veritable eye candy, able to cause any preteen child to swoon as if on an overdose of pixie sticks. Though they lacked the pseudo-Rat Pack swagger of Stan Lee's Marvel sales pitches, they were equally compelling in their own way.
Seeing all these together one realizes what a showcase they were for the letterer(s). All those action-packed layouts and great smash headlines...impressive examples of an unsung art.
The æsthetics of the ads very much affected my experience of the comic books.
